Running Out Of Time

The Premier League might consider it possible that the season plays to a conclusion but the lower leagues don't have much room for manoeuvre now. If players are back in training at the end of the month it's hard to see the season recommencing until around the end of June. By this time many of the players will be out of contract or supposed to be returning to their clubs.

Factor in that it will be impossible to play in front of a crowd and clubs have lost their main source of revenue. Many clubs were hand to mouth before the crisis so you wonder how they struggle on through now.

To attempt to finish the season could kill several clubs off. It would also eat into a new season making life impossible going forward.

The best chance is to terminate the season now by taking the average points per game to even it up as much as possible. I have my expected points which I will post when I have an opportunity. This will show which teams have easier or harder run-ins but at this stage it's not easy to tell what a hard fixture is. You have to play Leeds in the final game of the season and they have just won the title. Easy or difficult fixture?

Announce the promoted and relegated clubs now and give everyone a chance to regroup. Consider the finances of all clubs and somehow arrange a package to help clubs survive. Finance is such a major issue. If a club can't demonstrate how they will survive for the next year should they really be allowed to participate? From a company standpoint the answer is probably no but this is the institute known as football.

It's incredibly unfair on the fans who view football clubs as their clubs. Trouble is they have no financial control and no influence on how clubs are run. They are pawns in a game for certain unscrupulous owners to bleed the clubs dry. I suspect the EFL know all this but are somewhat limited on the influence they can exert.

I just can't see the game getting started again outside the Premier league so suggest to the authorities that now is the time to curtail the season and get planning for the future.
