Championship Relegation Battle

Posted in Football

The Championship is all set to return this weekend, much to the relief of some, not to others. Any of the clubs sitting just outside the relegation zone must have wished to see the season curtailed. The real match of the day must be between Hull City and Charlton Athletic. Being in the relegation zone is more dangerous than usual as the season progresses.

I'm curious to know if the EFL have any plans in place to deal with the possibility of the season recommencing and then having to halt again. What if Charlton win at Hull to move themselves out of the zone and pass the parcel stops after the first set of games back? Would Hull be the ones to be relegated? Probably, but the case for injustice increases. Neither side will be at full strength as players don't want to be involved. Contracts about to terminate and injury concerns in anticipation of moves to other clubs are a couple of reasons.

Like so many things people will have different opinions. Should Taylor be Lyle to the cause? A big move to another club would be a satisfactory conclusion to his career but I'm sure Charlton fans would have hoped for more commitment from him. It makes them feel like a stepping stone but maybe that's what it is. After all, if you see how the club is being run, you wonder if there's a place for loyalty.

In the fantasy world I ran a simulation for the end of the season, results of which can be found on trickysays.com. My youtube channel ran through the remainder of the games. Look up Unofficial Football to find every simulated result for the rest of the season. Next up will be an analysis to see how the 2 seasons differ and how many results came out the same.

Tricky Says

Bigger game than usual for Hull and Charlton this weekend on the basis that being in the relegation zone at any stage of the season now could turn out to be costly.

Analysis of the simulated season coming up - a fun exercise that could turn up some useful pointers.
